Introducing Izzy Miller: Programmes and Events Producer at Animas
In this edition of Journeys in Coaching, I’m excited to share a conversation with Izzy Miller, Programmes and Events Producer at Animas Centre for Coaching. With a background in journalism and event planning, Izzy plays a pivotal role in designing and delivering Animas’ continuing professional development (CPD) programmes. Since joining Animas, Izzy has combined her skills in research, communication, and organisation to bring to life transformative programmes such as Neurodiversity in Coaching, Coaching and Trauma, and the upcoming Mental Health in Coaching series.
Izzy’s role goes far beyond logistics. She is a curator of learning experiences, working closely with industry experts to design programmes that meet the evolving needs of coaches. “At its core, my job is about understanding what’s important to the coaching profession and creating meaningful opportunities for learning,” she explains. Through her work, Izzy has helped shape spaces where coaches can deepen their knowledge, reflect on their practice, and ultimately better serve their clients.
The Journey to Animas: From Journalism to Programme Design
Izzy’s path to Animas began with a serendipitous LinkedIn connection. After studying journalism and event planning at university, she gained experience writing for publications like the Yorkshire Post and managing live music events. However, her passion for self-development led her to start sharing reflections and motivational posts on LinkedIn, through which she stumbled across Animas, and struck up a conversation with Ruth, the Managing Director.
“It was one of those lucky moments where my interests and skills aligned perfectly with what Ruth was looking for,” Izzy recalls. Ruth was recruiting for a role focused on researching and planning CPD programmes for Animas, and Izzy didn’t hesitate to seize the opportunity. “I’ve always been fascinated by how we grow as individuals, so the chance to contribute to the coaching profession felt like the perfect fit.”
A Day in the Life: Designing and Delivering Programmes
Izzy describes her work as a blend of research, collaboration, and operational planning. Every programme begins with deep research into the needs of coaches and the topics shaping the profession. For instance, when developing the Neurodiversity in Coaching programme, Izzy delved into the latest literature and consulted experts to understand the challenges and opportunities within this field. “I love diving into blogs, articles, and conversations to uncover what’s most relevant and important,” she shares.
The next phase involves reaching out to thought leaders and practitioners. “It’s about finding the right voices—people who not only have expertise but can bring fresh perspectives,” Izzy explains. After assembling a team of speakers, she works on crafting a coherent agenda, ensuring each session builds on the last while maintaining its unique value. “One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of making each session distinct yet interconnected,” she notes.
Challenges and Rewards of Programme Design
While Izzy finds her work deeply rewarding, it’s not without its challenges. Topics such as trauma and mental health require careful consideration to ensure the content remains within the scope of coaching and doesn’t stray into therapy. “Understanding those boundaries has been a learning curve for me,” Izzy admits. Balancing the desire to deliver timely content with the need to maintain quality is another challenge. “It’s about finding that sweet spot where the programme is both relevant and impactful,” she explains.
One of the most rewarding aspects of her role is witnessing the connections and communities that form among participants. Reflecting on the Neurodiversity in Coaching programme, Izzy shares how delegates continued their conversations on LinkedIn, creating a network of support and shared learning. “It’s amazing to see how these programmes foster relationships and spark ongoing dialogue,” she says.
Embarking on Her Own Coaching Journey
In 2023, Izzy decided to enrol in Animas’ Accredited Diploma in Transformative Coaching. While initially unsure about what she could offer as a coach at 24 years old, she quickly realised the personal growth and professional insights the course could provide. “I wasn’t expecting how much the course would affect me personally,” she reflects. Modules such as transactional analysis brought up emotions and reflections she hadn’t anticipated. “It’s been a journey of self-discovery as much as it’s been about learning coaching skills,” she adds.
For Izzy, one of the most challenging aspects of training has been resisting the urge to give advice. “It’s so tempting to jump in and tell someone what to do, but coaching is about holding space and trusting the client to find their own answers,” she explains. Despite the challenges, Izzy has found the experience deeply rewarding, particularly the connections she’s built within her cohort. “The support and camaraderie among my peers have been incredible,” she says.
The Future of Learning at Animas
Looking ahead, Izzy is excited about the launch of the Mental Health in Coaching programme, which aims to equip coaches with the knowledge and tools to support clients more effectively. “This programme is about recognising that everyone has mental health, not just those with diagnosed conditions,” she explains. The course will explore integrative approaches and provide practical tools for navigating conversations around mental health in coaching sessions.
Izzy sees her work as part of a broader mission to create resources that empower coaches and elevate the profession. “It’s not just about delivering courses; it’s about contributing to a culture of lifelong learning and curiosity,” she says. With her enthusiasm for growth and connection, Izzy is well-positioned to continue shaping transformative learning experiences at Animas.
